Attempted Gun Burglary Tied To Journal News Gun Maps

The Journal News decided to create and publicize an interactive map of addresses of gun permit holders. Critics were quick to point out that those maps provided an easy to use tool for criminals looking to steal guns. One of the homes publicized on the map, located in White Plains, NY, has been burglarized but the thieves couldn’t break the gun safe.

A White Plains residence pinpointed on a controversial handgun permit database was burglarized Saturday, and the burglars’ target was the homeowner’s gun safe.

At least two burglars broke into a home on Davis Avenue at 9:30 p.m. Saturday but were unsuccessful in an attempt to open the safe, which contained legally owned weapons, according to a law enforcement source. One suspect was taken into custody, the source said.

The gun owner was not home when the burglary occurred, the source said. The victim, who is in his 70s, told Newsday on Sunday that he did not want to comment while the police investigation continues.

In response State Senator Greg Ball has proposed new legislation that has garnered bi-partisan support.

Senator Ball will be publicly unveiling three separate pieces of legislation, all with bipartisan support, among them (S2132), to protect the privacy rights of ordinary citizens; including: law enforcement personnel, victims of domestic violence and private citizens. Let it be clear however, that under Ball’s legislation that has garnered bipartisan kudos and support, law enforcement and all related agencies would continue to have full access to permit information. Senate bill (S2132) would protect lawful gun owners, including thousands of retired and active law enforcement and victim of domestic violence survivors, from having their information publicly disclosed.

Senator Ball has a few choice words for the editors at the Journal News.

“The same elitist eggheads who use their editorial page to coddle terrorists and criminals are now treating law abiding citizens like level three sexual predators. These bills are critical to keep folks safe and fundamentally protect their inherent right to privacy. I hope all of these bills will be brought to the floor for an up or down vote, and allowed to fail or pass on their own merits and not as part of a large, overarching gun-control package. This is not about the Second Amendment; these bills are simply about commonsense and personal privacy. Publishing this information on a website, as we have evidently just witnessed in the recent attempted gun burglary, provides criminals with a map of where they can steal firearms from lawful owners for later use in the commission of crimes.

There’s a great roundup of reactions at Twitchy.

There are a few other criticisms of the map published by the Journal News. For example, a permit holder might be a domestic violence victim who needs the gun for protection against someone with a propensity for violence – who now knows where they live. The map also shows the addresses which do not have gun permit holders residing there, thus making those homes potential targets for a different brand of thieves.

A competing local newspaper, the Rockland County Times, published a roundup of the strong negative reaction to the interactive gun map published by the Journal News and included the home addresses of editors, publishers, and even the CEO.

Legislator and County Executive Candidate Ed Day had this to say, “This action is mind boggling and indefensible. As a law enforcement professional who has seen the human pain and suffering caused by gun violence up close and personal, I join every clear thinking individual who shares the same concerns we all have. However, focusing on and publishing the names and addresses of citizens who are law abiding, have no criminal record, withstood an investigation, and had a judge authorize their authority to possess a handgun defies logic on many levels. All that has been accomplished is that there is now a ready ‘burglar’s menu’ available for criminals to more easily add to the number of illegal guns on the street, as many holders of Rockland full carry gun permits are not allowed to bring that weapon with them to New York City, thus leaving it at the potentially unattended location, or worse still a place where there may be a family with children, as identified by the Journal News. Of course, that burglar is also now likely armed ‘just in case.’”

The map was led into on the front page of Sunday’s Journal News under the provocative headline “What you don’t know about the weapons in your neighborhood.”

The Rockland County Times shares in the community’s frustration with the tactics of the Journal News, particularly the seeming attempt to draw a moral link between law abiding gun owners and the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. The only remedy for this is for the editorial board of the Journal News as well as executives at Gannet to receive a taste of their own medicine.

Then there is the final bit or irony in that when the executives at the Journal News felt threatened they immediately decided to get protection – in the form of armed guards.

Take the Journal News executives who decided to publish the gun map. The newspaper was so inundated with complaints that shortly after Christmas it took extra security precautions and hired security guards — who were armed — to patrol its Rockland County headquarters. The executives reported no incidents of any kind at the building, but they turned over at least two e-mails they found troubling. The local police said they didn’t find the e-mails threatening and concluded that they “did not constitute an offense.” The Journal News chose not to share with its readers the information that it had hired armed security guards. That revelation came from a competing newspaper, the Rockland County Times, which concluded that the Journal News conducts itself according to the double standard: “Guns are good for the goose but not for the gander.”

Why Are Bill Ayers And Unions Attacking Teach For America?

The unions like things the way they have always been, with decent pay, benefits and job security, but little expectation for real learning in the classroom. When young TFA instructors prove it can be done, they make life uncomfortable for the longtime teachers who have not performed very well at all.

Gun Owners Should Cower In Shame

According to Eric Holder, circa 1995:

“What we need to do is change the way in which people think about guns, especially young people, and make it something that’s not cool, that it’s not acceptable, it’s not hip to carry a gun anymore, in the way in which we’ve changed our attitudes about cigarettes. You know, when I was growing up, people smoked all the time. Both my parents did. But over time, we changed the way that people thought about smoking, so now we have people who cower outside of buildings and kind of smoke in private and don’t want to admit it.”

This is how they think, this is who they are, and they are now the ones in charge. Eric Holder runs the Department of Justice, which has a civil rights division, and yet he has no respect for certain civil rights.

Meanwhile, here in New York, we have to deal with Governor Cuomo who is a screaming, frothing lunatic.

New York’s chief executive chowderhead isn’t going to take away anyone’s guns, and as a hunter himself, he “respects” the Second Amendment. He’s just going to:

  • Ban the most popular and useful types of guns
  • Ban the most useful and convenient magazines
  • Tax ammunition out of the reach of all but the affluent
  • Enact redundant laws against and increase the penalties for things that are already a crime
  • Rescind the 2A rights of people who don’t meet the Almighty State’s standards for mental “health,” which standards will surely be just as arcane, capricious, and whimsical as everything else they get their grubby hands on
  • Forbid private sales of guns, or make the restrictions against them so onerous as to be practically unmeetable by an ordinary person
  • Put you on a State watchlist for the crime of buying ammunition

Nah, no taking away anyone’s rights there. Oh, and confiscation and/or mandatory “buybacks” are most definitely on the table. If all this stuff doesn’t amount to a fascist encroachment on both the letter and intent of the Second Amendment, I’m sure I don’t know what would be.

The country is in the very best of hands.

Obama: Guns Will Protect My Family For Life From Dangerous People

Who are these dangerous people that President Obama wants lifetime secret service protection from? Thomas Nee’s son comes to mind.

Never heard of Thomas Nee? He is a key member of Joe Biden’s gun violence commission. He used to be the head of the Boston Police Patrolman’s Association and is currently the head of the National Association of Police Organizations.

In short, says one source familiar with the notoriously anti-firearm Nee, “he is a political hack/thug/activist who happens to carry a badge.”

Thomas Nee’s son Joseph Nee was convicted in 2004 for planning a Columbine style attack on fellow classmates.

Sources point out that not mentioned in state-run media accounts of the Biden comission is that Thomas Nee’s son was arrested and convicted for plotting a Columbine-style attack on Marshfield High School in Massachusetts. Additionally, says one source, “Joseph Nee might have armed himself at one point with his father’s service pistol though that story went off the radar.”

This source continued, “As usual, the ‘solution’ will be the attempted theft of freedoms from the innocent while the root causes of these evil shootings, especially dysfunctional parents will be ignored.”

Joseph Nee was planning on using his dad’s gun.

A female student told Marshfield Police that Joseph T. Nee, one of the two suspects in the case, pulled what she thought was a black, .40-caliber handgun from his waistband as she was getting off a school bus this past spring and told her “how the school was going to be shot up,” John P. McLaughlin, an assistant Plymouth district attorney, said at Nee’s arraignment Monday.

Nee is the son of Thomas J. Nee, president of the Boston Police Patrolmen’s Association, the city’s largest police union. Boston police officers carry .40-caliber Glock handguns, according to a department spokeswoman.

There were reports of trouble at home so it is tough to say how much blame to lay on Thomas Nee, but he isn’t necessarily the best choice for a gun violence commission.

In related news, President Obama signed a bill giving him secret service protection for the rest of his life. Although Obama will be protected from harm 24/7 by men with guns he continues to remain on the wrong side of the gun control debate.

Our main agenda is to have all guns banned. We must use whatever means possible. It doesn’t matter if you have to distort the facts or even lie. Our task of creating a socialist America can only succeed when those who would resist us have been totally disarmed.” – Sara Brady, Chairman, Handgun Control Inc., In a letter to Senator Howard Metzenbaum, The National Educator, January 1994, Page 3.

By calling attention to a well-regulated militia for the security of the Nation, and the right of each citizen to keep and bear arms, our founding fathers recognized the essentially civilian nature of our economy. Although it is extremely unlikely that the fear of governmental tyranny, which gave rise to the 2nd amendment, will ever be a major danger to our Nation, the amendment still remains an important declaration of our basic military-civilian relationship, in which every citizen must be ready to participate in the defense of his country. For that reason I believe the 2nd Amendment will always be important.” – John F. Kennedy.

Criminals Voting In Favor Of Banning Guns

Compare and contrast these two stories from Illinois.

The first story, about the gun grabbing legislation sweeping the nation has this bit about Chicago:

Chicago, which already has both some of the nation’s strongest gun laws and some of the worst rates of crimes involving guns, is calling for further gun regulation. Mayor Rahm Emanuel is traveling the state asking for the Illinois legislature to ban “assault weapons”; Illinois is already considering a bill that would ban vast swaths of semi-automatic weapons and magazines, as well as destroying shooting ranges.

The second story is about the swearing in of new legislators to the Illinois General Assembly:

Illinois’ newest General Assembly began Wednesday with the swearing into office of not one, but three Democrat legislators facing criminal charges. One might expect in a state with such a history of sending governors to prison, there would be a real initiative underway to stop the corruption, or at least to stop electing the corrupt. But in Illinois, there is no such luck, or sense.

Of course the story wouldn’t be complete without one of the legislators facing a gun charge.

And having the toughest gun laws in the country, what kind of state would Illinois be without having politicians who get in trouble for illegal possession of a firearm? Sen. Donnie Trotter was arrested for trying to bring a gun through airport security. Trotter claims to “work in security” and said he forgot his gun in his bag.

We report, you decide.

The Story The Media Is Hiding From You: School Shooting Stopped By An Armed Employee

The mainstream media had a meltdown after NRA spokesman Wayne LaPierre’s comments about posting armed guards at schools. In order to continue that narrative that “guns are bad” and to help their Democratic legislators pass sweeping new gun grabbing legislation the mainstream media has stayed virtually silent on any stories that contrast the narrative.

Here is one such story about a tragedy at a school that was avoided thanks to an armed employee:

“He pulled out his gun and started pointing it at people,” Thacker said.

Cowan trained a .380-caliber semi-automatic pistol at Riden’s face, said Sullivan County Sheriff Wayne Anderson. Carolyn Gudger, the school resource officer, drew her gun, then shielded the principal’s body with her own.

Thacker remembers Cowan shouting something – possibly including the words “10 years” – but she isn’t sure. She turned and ran out the set of public doors to the mulch pile in the front of the school, and hid behind bushes.

“He might shoot someone,” Thacker remembered thinking. “I just wanted to get out of there.”

Riden fled and Gudger inched back into the school, leading Cowan through the scattered pastel chairs in the empty cafeteria. It was a tactical move, meant to lure the gunman into a more contained place, Anderson said.

This Is A Soft And Weak Administration

The Obama administration has nominated John Brennan to be the next director of the CIA. Brennan is a terrible choice.

Brennan has also echoed Obama’s bleeding-heart rhetoric about murderous jihadists, whom he characterized as “victimized” by social and political forces. He reportedly bungled the Christmas Day underwear bomber case, kept the Director of National Intelligence in the dark about key counterterror arrests in London, and blew smoke about the bin Laden raid.

It is not altogether surprising given all the things the Obama administration is known for:

This is the administration, after all, that endorsed the release of convicted Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset al-Megrahi, whose terrorist act resulted in the murder of 189 Americans. The Obama White House feigned “surprise” over the release, but documents obtained by The Sunday Times of London in 2010 revealed that the administration “secretly advised Scottish ministers that it would be ‘far preferable’ to free the Lockerbie bomber than jail him in Libya.”

This is the administration whose attorney general was a senior law partner for Gitmo detainee cheerleaders Covington and Burling.

This is the administration that tried to shove Cirque du Jihad civilian trials in NYC down America’s throat over objections from 9/11 families and national security experts.

This is the administration that has rolled out the red carpet for scores of visitors belonging to groups serving as fronts for the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas and other militant Islamic outfits.

This is the administration that lied and blamed pretextual Internet movies for its own dereliction of duty at our consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

This is the administration that suffers from chronic and deadly apologitis when it comes to dealing with the demands of the Religion of Perpetual Outrage.

This is the administration that continues to deny plans to shut down Guantanamo Bay and transfer inmates to the U.S., while it quietly moved forward to purchase the Thomson Correctional Center in western Illinois “to provide humane and secure confinement of individuals held under authority of any Act of Congress,” i.e., Gitmo detainees.

The Face Of Clean Energy Sold Out To Big Oil

In light of Current TV being sold to Al Jazeera, the Qatari television station, a meeting was held to introduce the staff to the new bosses. Notably absent was Al Gore, which prompted the following reaction from a high level staffer:

“He has no credibility.

“He’s supposed to be the face of clean energy and just sold [the channel] to very big oil, the emir of Qatar! Current never even took big oil advertising — and Al Gore, that bulls***ter sells to the emir?”

The Affordable Care Act, Is, In Fact, Unaffordable. Unexpectedly.

In a completely unexpected turn of events, the Affordable Care Act has led, almost immediately, to rising costs in health care. Remember what Obama said in 2008?

“The only thing we’re going to try to do is lower costs so that those cost savings are passed onto you. And we estimate we can cut the average family’s premium by about $2,500 per year.”

Surprise! Things haven’t quite turned out as predicted (except by all the people who said that Obamacare would be terrible idea).

Why should this surprise?  The must-issue regulation built into ObamaCare increases costs for the insurers, who cannot draw all of the needed revenues from the high-risk pool, thanks to mandates on rates.  That means those costs have to get spread out to everyone in the pool.  This is nothing more than Risk Pool 101, a course that Congress flunked repeatedly in the ObamaCare debate.

And why are rates rising higher on individual premiums than employer-based premiums?  First off, the economics of aggregation are always going to work out that way; insurers want large groups of customers, and it’s less costly in the long run to find customers that way rather than one at a time.  I’d guess that the employer-aggregate pool might generate somewhat lower costs than the general population too (especially after must-issue), but that’s just speculation.  What isn’t speculation is that ObamaCare heavily regulates the individual markets in 2014 based on a law that doesn’t have many details in how that is supposed to be accomplished, based on state exchanges that may never exist in more than half of the states.  In that kind of environment, can anyone blame the insurers for basing premiums on worst-case scenarios this year?
